01. Shipwreck [Action]

[Little did Captain Barbossa know that day at Tortuga that he won't exactly wake up in the same place he had fallen asleep in - that is, the captain's cabin on the Queen Anne's Revenge. So when his eyes snapped open, it wasn't the hull of the ship they were looking at, but instead it was several tall trees they saw looming over him, along with the overcast sky.

The pirate captain proceeded to stand up from the ground, immediately feeling a new sensation in his back - that of a... pair of wings?]

Shiver me timbers... What is this wretched place?

[Fittingly enough, it was then when a chill ran up his spine and caused his body to quiver, making him notice that he was also shirtless - save for the white cotton pants on his legs.

Wait... did that mean...

Yes, turning his head around, Barbossa also saw no sign of his hat anywhere in the forest he was now in. The hat he had only just regained possession of.]

Arrr! Where be me hat? I swear, if somebody took me hat...

[Speaking of, what had happened to his ship that he had just acquired? Did his crew commandeer it somehow and left him here to perish while he was asleep? Just what in the world had happened in Tortuga? And what was up with this drastic season change? And that journal lying on the ground, which he knelt down to pick up - it wasn't a treasure he remembered uncovering. He was too confused and angry right now to make any sense of it.

Was this all that scalawag Jack Sparrow's doing again? If it was, he should better pray that Barbossa doesn't get his hands on him. Just marooning him on that bloody island wouldn't do this time... No, his fellow pirate would remember him as the scourge of the seven seas...

The (former) captain was already walking through the forest, trying to find anything - a path, a tavern, a port. It's there where somebody could find him and possibly help him understand what's going on.]

True enough. [Having a ship was as useful in Luceti as being able to fly. Sure it was still a freedom, but a limited taste within the large enclosure.]

I will admit, I do not recollect the name completely. The Blackbeard of my world and time does not yet have a flagship, nor will he obtain one if I have any say in it.

[She bows as a butler would bow and the chainsaw vanishes from her hands. Easier to move this way, even if her gestures aren't half as terrifying now. When she straightens, she turns and starts walking toward the village.]

You would be surprised. It behoves them to be generous considering the nature of the village. The other guinea pigs can get rather testy when they perceive someone as being less than altruistic on their shared morality scale. A shame, really. It does make them all rather boring after awhile.

[All goody-two-shoes and not a single black pock among them that hasn't yet been tamed into submission.]

You'll find your clothing and weapons at the shops, all laid out pretty for you. Although don't take more than you need. They get testy about that, too.

What happens? Essentially, anything you can program.

[The Vulcan gestured to the many doors surrounding the tall, circular room, and the many consoles and computers.]

The residents usually utilize the Dome for training exercises, to enhance specific fighting skills and stealth.
Or, as a means of entertainment.

[Spock opened one of the simulation doors, to reveal a plain, dark room...
When it shut, the Vulcan went over to a computer console and pressed a few buttons. The next time Spock opened the door, it revealed a spacious room containing a traditional dojo...

....a Luceti favourite.]

'Thin air' is an inadequate depiction...

Allow me to explain...The simulation rooms utilize two major subsystems... the holographic image and the conversion of matter. The holographic imaging system creates realistic environments and landscapes. The conversion system of matter creates physical objects from the central supply of raw materials from the Dome... or whatever power source the Malnosso are supplying it with. Under normal conditions, a participant in a holographic simulation should not be able to distinguish a real object from a simulated one.

[Spock allowed a moment for Barbossa to process this information...then continued.]

The simulators also generates impressive recreations of humanoid and other forms of life by means of precisely-shaped force fields covered by holographic imagery, with the effect that they seem solid to the touch. They are made to move by use of tractor beams, resulting in highly articulated and computer-controlled "puppets" which are exceptionally realistic, showing nearly equal behaviour to that exhibited by living beings, depending, of course, on the limits of the software involved. However, the replication-based material transport system is obviously unable to reproduce a living being.
Solid, inanimate objects on the simulated—items such as a book, a rock, or an apple...are composed of matter arranged by the replication system and, when deemed appropriate by the computer system, can be interacted with or even consumed. Objects created by replication of matter are physically real and can indeed be removed from the simulators, noting only that they will no longer be under the control of the computer once removed from the simulation. However, objects created in the simulation that are purely images can not be removed from the simulated environment, even if they seem to have a physical reality due to the force fields.

[Spock tilted his head...He purposely left out a lot of technical lingo... and hoped that the Captain understood.] Do you have any questions?

[She grins as she looks over her shoulder, amused at his interest.] Oh, my dearest captain, when I show off my powers, you'll know.

[She hasn't had a chance in awhile, which annoys her, but sometime soon perhaps she can really let loose again. She just has to be patient and wait the rest of these people out.

She looks away again and keeps moving forward, picking her way along.
]

As for the Malnosso, I'm afraid they're far too cowardly to show their faces here. Instead they like to shove us into their war and let us fight against those who wish to kill us rather than simply imprison us. However, should you ever wish to have a go at it against them, I would be more than happy to be of assistance.

[Spock tilted his head...]

The simulations have many capabilities... Though can I presume you meant a water-based ship?

[Hey... Barbossa could have been a space-pirate.... right? The Vulcan needed to make sure. Luceti was no place to make assumptions.]

No. You would be more likely to crash against the barrier and drown.

[ When Barbossa turned his attentions to the journal and its guide, Draco turned his back to his meal. There isn't much left to the deer, but he'll look it over and pick at it until he's sure that's really true.

He leaves off of it again when the pirate speaks up once more.
]

It was a bit long-winded, in my opinion. [ As for names... hmm. ] I happen to have several of them, but in this place I go only by Draco. And yourself?

Indeed, there are working 'airships' in my universe... However, the ship that I work on occupies a space with no air.

[Cryptic answer is cryptic.... Spock goes to the panel and types in a few commands...
...then the room around them hazes out and is replaced by the Bridge of the Enterprise. The viewscreen shows outer space, stars lazily moving past as the hologram moves them through a simulated warp.]

This is the ship I help command... The USS Starship Enterprise NC-1701...

The Malnosso, the cultists, our little enclosure and several enclosures like it, unfortunately. Some have been here longer, some not half as long.

But you'll rarely run into their lot unless you decide to do the dirty work of our all-caring overlords. [Grell waves a hand dismissively toward the sky, then reaches into her jacket to pull out her journal. She turns it to this page and hands it over to him.]

You may find this an amusing read.

I am not the Enterprise's Captain... I am it's First Officer.

You see that viewscreen? This is a simulation of what the Enterprise actually sees as it travels...

As it does travel through Space.
The ship itself is quite large... [Spock went to a panel.... and changed the viewscreen to show a model of the Enterprise.]

As you can see, the hull is here....

[Vivi wishes she had an answer for him, but to be honest, a lot of the motivations at work here are still a mystery to her. She can only give a somewhat helpless shrug before she beckons, starting in the direction of the village.] Let's walk. I can show you where to get warm clothes and find some of your things, and we can get a hot meal if you'd like.

[She waits until she's sure he's following, then reaches into a pocket to pull out her journal.]

There are things here called 'Shifts'--I don't really understand how they work, but they change things, and I suppose that's how we're brought here. Did you find a book like this near you? [If not, he'll find one soon enough. She's already got hers open, paging through it to find what she's looking for.]
