01. Shipwreck [Action]

[Little did Captain Barbossa know that day at Tortuga that he won't exactly wake up in the same place he had fallen asleep in - that is, the captain's cabin on the Queen Anne's Revenge. So when his eyes snapped open, it wasn't the hull of the ship they were looking at, but instead it was several tall trees they saw looming over him, along with the overcast sky.

The pirate captain proceeded to stand up from the ground, immediately feeling a new sensation in his back - that of a... pair of wings?]

Shiver me timbers... What is this wretched place?

[Fittingly enough, it was then when a chill ran up his spine and caused his body to quiver, making him notice that he was also shirtless - save for the white cotton pants on his legs.

Wait... did that mean...

Yes, turning his head around, Barbossa also saw no sign of his hat anywhere in the forest he was now in. The hat he had only just regained possession of.]

Arrr! Where be me hat? I swear, if somebody took me hat...

[Speaking of, what had happened to his ship that he had just acquired? Did his crew commandeer it somehow and left him here to perish while he was asleep? Just what in the world had happened in Tortuga? And what was up with this drastic season change? And that journal lying on the ground, which he knelt down to pick up - it wasn't a treasure he remembered uncovering. He was too confused and angry right now to make any sense of it.

Was this all that scalawag Jack Sparrow's doing again? If it was, he should better pray that Barbossa doesn't get his hands on him. Just marooning him on that bloody island wouldn't do this time... No, his fellow pirate would remember him as the scourge of the seven seas...

The (former) captain was already walking through the forest, trying to find anything - a path, a tavern, a port. It's there where somebody could find him and possibly help him understand what's going on.]

More like a primer on how not to get yourself killed in the first week.

[She held her hand out for the book again, noting that they were nearing the village.]

It is quite long though, isn't it? Helpful as it may be, it is important to know that your wings are your life; the Malnosso are twisted, death lasts a week, and we are all lovely guinea pigs with the single benefit of everything being free here.

[She gestures forward then to the village opening before them.]

[Barbossa nodded in the direction of the Vulcan with his brows lifted, his lips pulling into a faint smile.]

Ah, pardon me misunderstanding, Mr. Spock. [It still called back to his own experiences, however.] I used to be the first mate of a ship myself, in fact, before I... took matters in me own hands, ye could say. Had a certain... conflict of interests with the captain. [And right afterward he ended up being cursed for eternity, but that was not something he wanted to mention right now.]

[The pirate captain then went on to listen to Spock's explanation of what the viewscreen actually displayed and then looked at the model of the Enterprise. It was the ugliest ship he'd ever seen, so far off from what he was used to - the proportions were all skewed, the lack of sails made it lose its charm, the cannon placement was virtually upside down - just all completely wrong. There was nothing that made it look particularly menacing or a force to be reckoned with - certainly not that plate-looking hull. Yes, it was a space ship, but still...]

That be the mighty Enterprise? [He pointed to the viewscreen as he turned his head to the side to look at Spock.] Well, that thing better handle herself well in combat. What do ye use to fire in space, anyway? I wager it can't be bloody cannon-balls.

[Spock raised an eyebrow....

Pirate... must have been mutiny. But that other comment.... should Spock take offense to that?
No, because he was passive about most things. If he was Kirk though, the conversation might have taken a turn for the worse.

Instead he gestures to the ship design again.]

Phasers and photon torpedoes are the main source of weaponry. They are energy based weapons that attack the particles of the target. Neutralizing it.

Perhaps I will give you a demonstration at a later time.
However, perhaps we should exit the simulation. I am certain you will become used to their function soon enough.

Can I interest you in that drink now? [Good job Spock, you're being sociable.]

[While not as lengthy, that particular explanation also went over Barbossa's head, though he should have expected as much. He couldn't help but be curious, and yet, he knew he could not really grasp how this unearthly space ship's technology really worked - at least, not now. What was confirmed for him, however, that cannon balls were indeed something apparently dated in the future.]

[As for becoming used to simulation's functions...] I would not be so sure, but this sneak peek ye gave me was surely quite fascinatin'. I have to admit ye have piqued my interest, Mr. Spock.

[Barbossa then sighed at the mention of a drink and turned away from the ship design to look directly at Spock, speaking with a certain enthusiasm.]

Ye certainly can. What drink does one such as yerself have in mind, though, I wonder?

[He had spend enough time in the Vulcan's company to find it difficult to place him in a tavern such as Tortuga's, or imagine him enjoying rum the way most folk back home did. Whatever Spock was thinking of was certainly something too sophisticated or fastidious... unless he remembered his earlier comment about the rum. He would be sure to remind him in the case that he didn't.]

If you think not being able to sail off is so bad, try not being able to fly away.

[ He's run into the barrier. It's not fun. He doesn't crash into bits of wood on impact, though, so there's certainly that. As for his name, well, Draco can't help but agree with a slight laugh. ]

I was not the one who gave it to myself, but one of your kind. My real name is not something you would be able to pronounce. [ And then he inclines his head in a small nod. ] Well met, then, Captain Barbossa. As well as meeting in a place like this can be...

[Spock stared at Barbossa for a moment...]

Tea.

[The Pirate Captain could get whatever he wanted though...]

[A-a-a-and he got an answer just along the lines of what he was expecting. With the way Spock was, it was really reminiscent of 'em tea-loving pompous British folk; except that he was acting even more formal than anyone else there he had ever met.

At the very least, he didn't get on his nerves as most of them did. His presence was quite amusing, in fact.]

Tea, ye say? [The pirate captain nodded and gave the Vulcan a derisive smile, one of his hands rubbing his beard in the meantime.] Knock yerself out, then. Tea's nice and all, but after all I've just been through, Mr. Spock, I find meself needin' somethin' a bit... stronger, like a good old bottle of rum. [Besides, it was already fairly late into the day, wasn't it?]

[He began walking out of the room purposefully.] I certainly hope that this Good Spirits bar ye mentioned earlier isn't actually a bloody tea shop.

[Well, that was an option Barbossa hadn't considered before, though one could surely forgive him - he didn't make a habit of speaking with talking dragons back home.]

I guess ye have a point there. It must be quite frustratin' - I take it ye have given it a shot, hmm?

[The dragon received a little grin in response as the captain imagined the concept of Draco crashing against a sort-of magical barrier, the likes of which his mind could visualize, not having been witness to such an peculiar occurrence before.]

[As for the dragon's name being unable to be pronounced by him...] Ye sure about that? Now ye got me curious, dragon. [An unspoken request to at least try and tell him more as Barbossa crossed his arms in expectation with his brows lifted.]

Aye. I'm gettin' the feelin' that the circumstances of our untimely meeting could certainly be better.

[The fact that Barbossa didn't get anything from the girl was only indicative of two facts: she was either hiding something from him or she didn't have an idea as to those questions herself. The shrug, at the very least, somewhat cleared that up for him, but he wasn't too quick to trust anyone in here yet.

But she was his best bet for any clarity on the situation, so he went on to follow her as she urged him to. Warm clothes and a hot meal sounded nice to him, and even though he still had her coat on him, it could stand to be less cold in this wretched forest. But - one thing...]

Me things? Me clothes and possessions are here too, then? And what has become of me ship? [One could only hope that most of what he had was still here, otherwise things could get unpleasant.]

[The talk about these 'Shifts' kind of went over his head, but at the very least he could answer Vivi's query.] Aye, I woke up with this lyin' right next to me. Didn't exactly spare the time to really peruse it yet.

[Barbossa lightly scoffed as he kept his gaze on the book.] I think I should handle meself well enough, I'd like to think I'm... fairly adaptive given what I have had the pleasure of goin' through.

[He had been through so much already that he lost count of how many adventures he had that he hadn't planned on that he had already endured. Hopefully, this will be one of them and he would find himself back at his ship before long.]

Aye, that sounds like a relatively adequate sum-up of our conversation, actually. [He did furrow his brows in response to the last thing she listed, though.] I assume there is still a limit of some sort to "everything", otherwise I wouldn't mind gettin' me hands on a ship to sail out of 'ere as soon as possible.

[Spock followed the Pirate Captain, shutting down the simulation room as he went.]
Indeed, you will find that Good Spirits has much to offer in the way of alcohol.

[Spock was certain that it would be a fascinating experience, drinking with the Captain.]

However... I will refrain from rendering myself unconscious.

Aye. My namesake. On MY ship. [That was interesting. Hector knew about the bottle, the ship. How much else did he know?]

Wouldn't be IN that predicament if it hadn't been for you.

[Them's fightin' words. Jack's still more than sore about that issue.]

You'll find that harder to do than expected. Observe.

[Grell picks up and rock and flicks it straight up into the air. It flies up like a bullet, then smashes into the barrier that covers the entire complex - shattering in what would appear to be mid-air a good few hundred metres above them.]

The cage is far more extensive than you can imagine.

[Hmph. That was an impressive toss, and the rock would have probably kept on going and going for a lot more if it wasn't for that barrier that it just hit. It was quite an adequate demonstration bluntly showing the reality behind the hospitable appearance of the village that was already in view and all the seemingly vast nature surrounding it. Quite literally a cage.]

So that's a 'nay' for any probable escape, be it through flyin' away, sailin' or any other means. The Malnosso folk sure like to keep a tight hold over their "guinea pigs", hmm?

[He then nodded in her direction as he ran his hand through his beard thoughtfully as he looked up.] If even yer powers that ye speak of can't break through that, we are up against a formidable foe indeed.

[Though the ever persistent pirate captain would never rule out the possibility that there was, in fact, a way around it all, despite how much the odds were stacked against them. He was not going to admit defeat anytime soon, oh no.]

[With the Malnosso's apparent generosity towards their captives, it would have been quite an insult not to supply them with rum of all things, the beverage all back home desired, so it was not surprising to hear that they had access to that as well. In response to Spock's comment, however, Barbossa could only shake his head as his eyes widened.]

Oh, don't mistake me in me desire for some rum - I know me limits. I don't seek a state of unconsciousness meself, especially not in here of all places. I just found me clothes, after all - I'd hate to lose them again, ye see.

[There was still a ways to go until Barbossa found himself putting his trust in Luceti's population of fellow prisoners, and that would include him meeting some more of them first.]

But what I could use is some calmin' down right about now, and I'm sure ye'd understand why. I happen to find that rum helps me in that aspect. [There was just so much for his mind to process today, it was ridiculous.]

[The older pirate couldn't help but give out a sigh as he put down the ale and leaned forward, looking at Jack and shaking his head a bit.]

Ye be suggestin' that if you were in command of the Pearl, ye would've somehow stopped Blackbeard's attack, hmm? [He then cackled as he gave the other man a grin.] I would highly doubt that, Jack.

Ye may have become the one-legged man yerself and brought the end to that bloody menace of a pirate that he so deserved, but the Pearl would've still been lost, I'm afraid. In the end, it's all his fault, is it not? [He wasn't cutting Blackbeard any slack - he might've been defeated in the end, but if it wasn't for him, Barbossa could still have had his ship and the leg that he lost.]

I could indeed.

[Robin is waiting for him by the fountain, as she said. And if he is particularly observant he might notice eyes tucked into the eves of buildings and shadows, tracking his movements with curiosity.]

Welcome to the village. I see you've found your way without dying.

Your fault for bein' still alive at all. [There is a juvenile so there tone to those words. Jack's not above being childish about things like this.]

Least HE'S not here.

[It has more than once occurred to Jack that Blackbeard might indeed show up one of these cycles. Small favors, really, that he hasn't.]

There WAS a Blackbeard here once. 'Bout eight foot high. Horrible breath. Everyone hated him. He wasn't OUR Blackbeard, though.

[Spock nods his assent.]

Of course Captain. And I will be content to answer any questions you may ahve while you consume your...

..rum.

[Spock lead them out of the Dome and towards the Good Spirits bar.]

Several. [ Sometimes he's frustrated enough to try, try again, too, but that isn't a fact anyone needs to know of. ] Claws and fire do nothing against it.

[ Then he smirks. Another wishing to try his real name, is it? ]

Very sure, but if you wish to try, I'll certainly give you a chance. My true name happens to be [ Something very complicated involving rather inhuman dragon sounds (not written here, as the writers never bothered to actually reveal it; writers, honestly!) ].

[And that was why what Barbossa was going to do was simply ignore Jack's words, giving him naught but a brief stare of irritation, simply going on pretending that he had not heard him at all.]

Aye, that be true! [And that was most certainly a relief. Carrying out and fulfilling that prophecy once was enough, thank you.] This place is so queer, however, that I wouldn't be surprised to find him of all folk 'ere as well. After all, our mutual acquaintance James Norrington seems to be up and about, good as new, alive and kickin'.

[His eyes widened a bit in response to Jack's mention of the eight foot tall other Blackbeard.]

Heard about another Blackbeard meself already, as a matter of fact. Fearsome pirate like ours, yet supposedly the whelp didn't even have a bloody ship back in his own world. [It was clear that Barbossa did not think highly of whoever that was. At least their Blackbeard was a formidable foe and one that he took pride in killing.]

[And observant enough he was to notice a pair of eyes on him, suspecting that it was her moments before she actually spoke her greetings. It was then when he remembered her from the journal video feed, his brows lifting at the recognition, his head nodding slowly.]

...Would've been a shame if the damn cold or the starvation got to me, aye, but I fear I have been through much, much worse, lass. [Memories he didn't want to recall particularly, but they were still worth noting.]

Then one such as meself couldn't possibly hope for a ship to pierce through it now, could they? [So that would force him into trying out other methods instead, but a direct assault against that barrier seemed more and more like a pointless idea. Whatever the way out of this cage was, it was something else.]

[Okay, he couldn't possibly repeat all that, whatever it was. It sounded more like noise than anything else.] ...Fascinatin', but aye, I concede - ye are correct. I think I'll stick with 'dragon'. ["Draco" as a name was ludicrous; that wasn't even an attempt of a translation of his actual name. Folk could just as well have gone all the way and dubbed him "Dragon".]

Is that in the language of yer kind?

[OOC: That is worse than Lucas not giving away Yoda's species' name for some reason!]

[Ah, Norrington -- a much better subject than Blackbeard any day, and worth putting that subject on the back burner for.]

You've spoken to James?

I exchanged some pleasantries with the Admiral, aye. [More like spiteful insults and petty affronts. Pretty much the same as before, really. At least nobody ended up dead, so that was a start. Well, the lack of any weapons on either side could have been the reason for that.]

Suffice it to say, he was not particularly thrilled to see me. [Norrington's reaction upon meeting him was still something that caused the pirate some amusement whenever he recalled it, as he did now.]
