01. Shipwreck [Action]

[Little did Captain Barbossa know that day at Tortuga that he won't exactly wake up in the same place he had fallen asleep in - that is, the captain's cabin on the Queen Anne's Revenge. So when his eyes snapped open, it wasn't the hull of the ship they were looking at, but instead it was several tall trees they saw looming over him, along with the overcast sky.

The pirate captain proceeded to stand up from the ground, immediately feeling a new sensation in his back - that of a... pair of wings?]

Shiver me timbers... What is this wretched place?

[Fittingly enough, it was then when a chill ran up his spine and caused his body to quiver, making him notice that he was also shirtless - save for the white cotton pants on his legs.

Wait... did that mean...

Yes, turning his head around, Barbossa also saw no sign of his hat anywhere in the forest he was now in. The hat he had only just regained possession of.]

Arrr! Where be me hat? I swear, if somebody took me hat...

[Speaking of, what had happened to his ship that he had just acquired? Did his crew commandeer it somehow and left him here to perish while he was asleep? Just what in the world had happened in Tortuga? And what was up with this drastic season change? And that journal lying on the ground, which he knelt down to pick up - it wasn't a treasure he remembered uncovering. He was too confused and angry right now to make any sense of it.

Was this all that scalawag Jack Sparrow's doing again? If it was, he should better pray that Barbossa doesn't get his hands on him. Just marooning him on that bloody island wouldn't do this time... No, his fellow pirate would remember him as the scourge of the seven seas...

The (former) captain was already walking through the forest, trying to find anything - a path, a tavern, a port. It's there where somebody could find him and possibly help him understand what's going on.]

[Spock gives way the first sign of frustration...]

It is... difficult to explain Captain.

The Malnosso are also trapped here... and have been for generations. They are scientists looking for data... for what purpose I know not.

However, the times between shifts are peaceful. [Spock looks at Barbossa.]

It would be unwise for you to be exposed to this cold for much longer Captain. Please follow me... I will show you where you can acquire sufficient clothing.

[Barbossa eased up a little, but only because he was getting more and more confused to pay attention to whether there were any hostile intentions.]

And what is Luceti, Mr. Saleh? What is it that I'm a newcomer to, exactly?

[And what was all this talk about cycle about, anyway? He wasn't back in the World's End now, was he?]

[Barbossa turned around to the sound of the woman's voice, furrowing his brows a little when his gaze met her own.

Well, well. Finally, there's someone to bring some color to this desolate and empty land. He quickly looked the woman over before he replied.]

Pardon me, miss, but I seem to have lost my way.

[He took a step forward, not oblivious to her flustered state but not thinking much of it, either.]

Could ye tell me where we are, exactly?

[What he didn't sense was any hostility coming from her, and whoever she was, he doubted that she was behind his current predicament or the reason for his state of undress and the fact that he was just supposedly transported from the cabin of ship.]

[Barbossa returned the teenager's glare with a confused expression on his face, but he still managed to glare back himself.

The kid didn't look particularly friendly for one reason or another... Well, he was a pirate. Not that it mattered, really, because he could certainly take him if it came to that.

Now, though, he just wanted to get some answers.]

What in blazes do ye mean, boy? I have not met the likes of ye before.

[He was absolutely certain. He would definitely remember somebody with a haircut like Sora's.]

[As he explored the forest in hopes to find any sign of his whereabouts, Captain Barbossa turned around himself immediately to the sound of Belle's voice, initially wary. He stood his ground but then he began walking towards where it had come from, concluding that it wasn't quite the voice of somebody who meant him harm.

Soon, he saw the woman he had just heard, relieved at the sight. He eased up when he did, but there was still a hint of irritation in his tone caused by him not understanding what was going on and how he ended up here.]

Aye. Hello, miss.

[He tilted his head a little while he folded his arms. He saw the book she held in her hands, and assumed that it was a journal like his own that he had just woken up next to.]

I be Captain Barbossa of the Queen Anne's Revenge. Who might ye be?

[With his frustration growing over being lost in this forest without anything on his back, Barbossa hadn't even spotted Jade standing there.

He was now looking at him suspiciously, not quite understanding what he was saying, or whether he even intended for him to understand anything. Instead of getting some clarity, he was now even more confused.]

...And where has this wave ye speak of brought me, boy?

[He kept his guard up as he asked his question, his eyes observing Jade in return.]

Luceti is the name of this enclosure, a prison for those of us who are trapped here. You have just been brought here, yes? Newcomers often arrive with just a white pair of shorts, or a white dress for women.

A few people have earmarked it as their beverage of choice. [ she leans over the counter, grabbing a stout little bottle of a decent rum. ] Mostly, the funny talkers. There's a correlation worth noting: if a guy walks in talking like he's off a History Channel special? He's probably gonna ask for the rum.

[ she offers the man the whole bottle, cork intact. ]

[Tortuga?

Grell's attention suddenly sharpens and she puts a hand up on the branch above her, leaning over to stare at Barbossa like she's trying to pry into his soul.]

Pray tell...Does the name Sparrow mean anything to you?

Luceti, sir. [She offers a small curtsey and approaches.

Faith does her best to smile, but she knows the strangeness of this place all too well.] It is... a place of magic. I am a poor one to offer you a proper explanation. Others might be able to.

[But she can offer one comfort.]

I do know where there are garments, food, and drink, though, sir. You'll catch your death out here if you go lacking them for too long.

[ No path, no tavern, no port, just trees, trees, trees, and a dragon breaking his fast on a scrawny winter deer-- wait. That can't be right, right? Only it is. Sitting in a forest clearing between him and the inevitable village in Barbossa's path is, in fact, an actual dragon. He's not particularly worried about anyone stumbling upon him there, either, since no one in Luceti has yet to be a threat to him. ]

[Jade just gives a hard-to-read smile and draws closer, speaking in a tone that's fairly polite and cordial, but tinged with a cheeriness that seems somewhat false.]

My, it's been far too long since I've met someone who would refer to me as "boy". However, I'm afraid that the answer to your question may be beyond your comprehension.

[There's a freaky looking half-bird pirate watching from up in the trees.]

Aye, losing a hat is the most terrible of fates. What did it look like? Perhaps I'll chance upon it when I go looking for other things, eh.

[Hmph. These Malnosso were barking up the wrong tree for no apparent reason.]

They better start lookin' how to get us off this place if I had anything to say about it. They want out. We want out. It's a fair deal for both sides, is it not?

[Perhaps no one has thought of a parley between the two. Whoever was behind this deserved to be shot on sight, but there was something about the Malnosso's logic he didn't quite understand.]

Aye. Perhaps ye could help me find me old clothes and hat, Mr. Spock? [He looked over Spock's outfit.] I'd rather not wear... anything particularly queer.

[Assuming they were still around here somewhere. If they were, then perhaps his ship would be too. He could only hope.]

[Barbossa froze in sudden dread. The subject of Jack Sparrow was... quite a sensitive one for him.

The pirate's eyebrows were scrunched and there was a hint of anger in his voice, even more so than before.]

Curses! Don't tell me that sorry scoundrel is the reason I'm here?

[What if this Grell person was working with him? Were the both of them trying to make a fool out of him? Leaving him with no clothes and marooning him on this island... Was it petty revenge they were after?]

[The captain accepted it eagerly and proceeded to sit down, still looking curiously at the woman as he did. Aye, it was the funny talkers who liked the beverage, but it wasn't until they actually started drinking it when they spilled everything that was on their head at the time. Naturally, it didn't lead to anything good most of the time.

But Barbossa? While he was a fan himself, he knew his limits, not wanting to leave himself vulnerable to anyone, and he wouldn't start doing so now - especially here.]

Then I assume ye already knew I was going to ask for the rum?

[He was already taking a drink from the bottle.]

That's a very interesting observation indeed, miss. And I certainly agree. Those you describe are naught but humble pirates from where I come from. We're not the most eloquent of folk.

You're a pirate?

[ she tries very hard to feign surprise. she also tries very hard to feign only the most casual of curiousities. but a chill hits her spine and she braces herself lazily against the bar: palms tucked against the counter's lip.

jack had tried for years, now, to teach her how to lie and subterfuge and undercover it with the best of them, but buffy will always be a brash and brusque. it's hard for her to hide her sharp interest in the man who claims piracy so readily. ] I wasn't aware that pirates made a habit of being humble, y'know.

[Those certainly weren't any pair of white cotton shorts he owned. He did not like them, and he definitely didn't like what he was hearing right now.]

Curses, I've already atoned for what I did! Do ye know who is behind this?

[He had already spent enough time either dead, at the World's End, and most recently, without one of his limbs to deserve this.]

[Barbossa couldn't help but be amused and slightly surprised at her salute. It wasn't a common way of a woman to greet a pirate, no matter how polite and welcoming he sometimes tried to be.]

Ye might be of more help to me than ye think. I have naught but a clue about this... odd occurrence that I'm dealin' with here, and I've seen my share of strange things before.

[He then nodded in response to the woman's offer. He might've survived without any of these things at a time in his life, but now he was in dire need of them just as anyone else.]

Aye, that would be appreciated, miss...?

[He certainly qualified as one per Barbossa's standards, who merely scoffed in reply.]

Ye are younger than me, are ye not?

[Barbossa narrowed his eyes upon Jade's second comment. If it wasn't obvious, he didn't particularly care for it.]

Is that so, hmm? Try me, lad.

[He wasn't particularly used to not being respected enough as a pirate captain except by one Captain Jack Sparrow.]

[He knew he had said to himself that finding anything in these woods would be better than wandering around aimlessly, Barbossa's eyes still widened upon seeing an actual dragon in the forest.

O-okay, he hadn't exactly included the possibility of encountering a dragon in his calculations. Naturally, he suspected that it's hostile and that he'll be engulfed in flames if he was seen.]

Blimey...

[He had finally regained his life recently and reclaimed his title as pirate captain - he was not going to die again so soon. Pretty sure it would be permanent this time, too - he didn't have anything to fight a bloody dragon with right now anyway. He'd need all the cannons of his ship to make a victory a remote possibility.

So, the smart thing would be to try to avoid being seen, which was what Barbossa was planning on doing by taking a few steps back and perhaps searching for an alternate route... but was it too late?]

[Interesting. So they're acquaintances and not on the best terms.

Perfect.

Grell steps off the branch and drops to the ground below, standing to her full 6 foot height with a smile.]

Sadly no, although you've preemptively answered my other question so thank you. You're here because the world itself brought you here and the Malnosso have decided to trap you in our little bubble.

[She gives a curtsey.]

Grell Sutcliffe, at your service, my lord.

From what I am aware, both parties have been working on an escape... with no success.

[Hey, you could try talking to them... if you don't value your life.]

Indeed... your belongings may have followed you here. It is possible that they have appeared in the various shops in town. [Spock gestured towards the path.]

Shall we? [The Vulcan started to walk.]

[He continued his aimless and continuously futile walk through the woods when he suddenly heard a voice from above...

Who in the bloody hell was he?

Something about this guy, who was quite obviously a pirate, arose a lot of suspicion in Barbossa. He didn't care for his tone, either.]

Are ye talking to me, whelp? Were ye the one who stole me clothes?

[And indeed, he would definitely try to "talk" to them sometime. Perhaps folk around here weren't quite as capable as he was, or had the required authority of a pirate captain. Oh, he had no idea yet what exactly he was facing.

Then, he frowned.]

Is that what has become of me clothes? Are ye tellin' me that someone is now runnin' around with gold earned from selling me hat?

[He followed the Vulcan, keeping his gaze on him angrily. He really liked that hat! Oh, it was definitely great to hear that it could still be here, but he had just found it again... Just his luck to have it taken from him immediately afterwards.]

What of me ship, Mr. Spock? Has it "appeared" somewhere on the docks, too?
