01. Shipwreck [Action]

[Little did Captain Barbossa know that day at Tortuga that he won't exactly wake up in the same place he had fallen asleep in - that is, the captain's cabin on the Queen Anne's Revenge. So when his eyes snapped open, it wasn't the hull of the ship they were looking at, but instead it was several tall trees they saw looming over him, along with the overcast sky.

The pirate captain proceeded to stand up from the ground, immediately feeling a new sensation in his back - that of a... pair of wings?]

Shiver me timbers... What is this wretched place?

[Fittingly enough, it was then when a chill ran up his spine and caused his body to quiver, making him notice that he was also shirtless - save for the white cotton pants on his legs.

Wait... did that mean...

Yes, turning his head around, Barbossa also saw no sign of his hat anywhere in the forest he was now in. The hat he had only just regained possession of.]

Arrr! Where be me hat? I swear, if somebody took me hat...

[Speaking of, what had happened to his ship that he had just acquired? Did his crew commandeer it somehow and left him here to perish while he was asleep? Just what in the world had happened in Tortuga? And what was up with this drastic season change? And that journal lying on the ground, which he knelt down to pick up - it wasn't a treasure he remembered uncovering. He was too confused and angry right now to make any sense of it.

Was this all that scalawag Jack Sparrow's doing again? If it was, he should better pray that Barbossa doesn't get his hands on him. Just marooning him on that bloody island wouldn't do this time... No, his fellow pirate would remember him as the scourge of the seven seas...

The (former) captain was already walking through the forest, trying to find anything - a path, a tavern, a port. It's there where somebody could find him and possibly help him understand what's going on.]

[Ah, he wouldn't do such a thing; wannabe pirates may, yes, but not people who could actually claim such a ship for themselves like he had.

So, the name Queen Anne's Revenge was known even here. That was very good. Though he would need to clarify something first...]

Nay, it is Blackbeard's ship, miss Long. Used to be, rather, before he was finally dealt with. Now it's under me command.

[He could only hope that it still was anyway; it wasn't exactly clear what had happened to the Queen Anne's Revenge yet after he found himself here.]

[No port... surrounded by forest and mountains.

The words echoed in his mind a few times as he remained silent while they walked. Wherever this place was, there was apparently nothing resembling the world he came from. It was all land.

Needless to say, the sailor was disheartened.]

So it's not an island we're all stuck in. Just bloody land.

[A part of him had still hoped it was an island, so the statement was etched with his disappointment at the revelation.]

No need for gold... ye say? [He blinked at that, as well.] Everythin' be free for the takin' here? Well, isn't that interesting.

[It really was. Even if it was an island, Barbossa would still have had a hard time forming a willing crew with this in mind.]

[Have another eyebrow.]

Pleasantries? Can I safely assume that you are utilizing sarcasm? [Literal Vulcan has difficulty with the wonders of the English language.]

The Britannia.

[Spock didn't know if he enjoyed Barbossa's presence or not... did he just insult the Vulcan?] There is no dress code...this is my chosen attire.

Do not feel as though you have to choose the same. [Have a wry smile.] You seem to have an attachment to your...hat. You have mentioned several times in conversation already..what does it look like?

[That wasn't nearly enough of a satisfying explanation. All of this made the captain furrow his brows in confusion, rather.]

Are ye sayin' I be in another world now, lass? [There was disbelief in his voice. Not again. He hadn't just died, had he?] Who took me things to this... item shop ye speak of? Where is that, anyway?

[Have a scoff in response.]

Aye. Ye're a sharp lad, Mr. Spock.

[and just like that, Barbossa was utilizing sarcasm again; the look on his face should have been enough for even Spock to find it perfectly obvious. Though he wasn't quite the ordinary person, was he? For all Barbossa knew, this was just a man with weirdly pointy eyes.

Learning that the name of the ship wasn't Queen Anne's Revenge didn't quite clear his acquaintance from stealing it, though it did make Barbossa run his hand through his beard a bit in thought.]

The Britannia, ye say?... I doubt old Jack named it, then - could've been another ship he stole. Never had much love for the English folk - and on that, at the very least, he and I can agree.

[Barbossa, for one thing, would certainly be a touch more kind if he hadn't just been transported to a whole new world and lost everything he had - though Spock hadn't done anything to anger him further yet, which was still something!]

It is me carefully crafted round hat, Mr. Spock, with a couple of blue ostrich feathers on top, and I've already lost it once before. And I don't wish to see it in the hands of another pirate. [Or rather, on their head.] And certainly not Jack Sparrow.

[A rude talking dragon sure beat a hostile one that would set one's ship ablaze with just a single breath. That didn't mean Barbossa was fond of Draco just yet, though he still smirked in his direction,, easing up a bit.]

Ye'll have to forgive me ignorance, but I've only heard tales of dragons before, and none involved... exchangin' words with one, exactly.

[Then nobody had met somebody the likes of Draco before, seemingly... Neither in fiction nor in reality. Unless, of course, they were immediately rid of their existence afterwards. Dead men tell no tales, after all. Which meant that he was still very much in danger.]

If by 'new' ye mean wakin' up in this blasted forest with nothin' but these pants on and all of me clothes gone, then aye. I be new.

Me hat is supposedly somewhere in the shops, last I heard from folk around here if they can be trusted.

[And supposedly he didn't have to pay for it, thankfully, otherwise he wouldn't have been particularly happy.

He glanced to his side for a bit while he took another sip from his ale, and then faced Jack again.]

Ye know how it's like being marooned on an unfamiliar, uncharted place, however. Figured I'd stop here first and... take it in, ye could say.

[And a stare like that was hard not to notice, for Barbossa could feel it in the back of his head even before the duck's gaze was met with his.

As Barbossa walked by and stumbled upon the woman and the duck alike, his eyes couldn't help but look back at the odd creature, his brows scrunched at the sight.

"What are ye lookin' at?", he thought. What was this thing? He was pretty sure Tortuga wasn't populated by ducks.

After a brief moment of an ensuing staring contest, he looked to the woman beside him, who apparently hadn't noticed him quite yet.]

I think ye have yer duck starin' at me, lass.

[Flagship, eh? Barbossa didn't have quite that (not that he would have it be otherwise), but still - Marco's fortunes might've been even worse than his own.]

Well, isn't that interesting... Captain Marco. Impressive, if true. What color were yer sails, I wonder?

[It sure sounded like he didn't come from the world he had known, so it got him naturally curious as a fellow pirate captain. And also, he wanted to find out more about the validity of what Marco was telling him. Naturally]

Ye're certainly correct that it's all moot. Me own ship better be intact when I return, though... If that's possible, given our new friends, the Malnosso.

[So on top of this barrier would prevent him from seeing anything close to the vast open waters he was used to.]

I gather that there is no outlet to sea close by that we may head to, at all, then?

[Well, then this was one big mystery that would have to be solved - which also provided Barbossa an enemy to defeat on the side. That might have been fun if not for the fact that his ship was probably gone, and he couldn't take the battle to the seas. He'd still have his sword, though... Hopefully.]

Appealing accommodations still don't beat havin' true freedom. Ye know we're just as much in shackles as any poor unlucky prisoner locked in the brig of a ship sailing off to no man's land.

[And for that, he'd have to make an effort to escape. There was always a way somehow - he managed to escape death, after all.]

Perhaps it's precisely because of these... niceties that we're given that there hasn't been a bigger outbreak, mister...?

[Now she had him intrigued. Even people in this place seemed to know of the existence of his ship and its previous captain... Or was it somebody from his world who had been speaking to the village's residents, spreading tale after tale?

He folded his arms on the table as he looked at the woman with a hint of a smile.]

Aye. Seems like the ship's fame transcends worlds, wouldn't ye say?

[The pirate then quirked a brow inquisitively.]

May I ask ye something, miss? Where are ye from, exactly?

[That wouldn't have been really nice and noble of the Commodore, would it? Barbossa would surely have found somebody eventually to lead him back to the village and then find Norrington, and he'd tell him what he thought of that...

But he wasn't exactly thrilled about wandering in these woods without any decent clothing anymore, so heading to the village now was the most preferable option. The company could have been better, of course, but at least he could have some fun.]

And follow I will then, Commodore. Ye can't exactly leave an old acquaintance like me to freeze in this forest now, can ye? Ye're a gentleman, after all - not like my lot.

[And with that, he began following Norrington, a slight grin on his face as they walked through the forest.]

The bar isn't out of rum yet, ye say? Well then, I doubt I should make the effort to look for any pirates here who share the same fate as I.

[He didn't know yet that the supply was infinite; which was why it was a comforting thought (at this time) that there was a chance that Jack Sparrow wasn't in Luceti, too.]

I prefer apples myself, Commodore, so I don't think that'll be a problem. I can't help but be curious, though - why the warning?

[OOC: Hahaha, that is quite alright - I'll just wait a little extra time to reply to your tags. :P And hey, you didn't edit THIS one, so there must be exceptions!]

[ knowing this is likely the very same barbossa part-demonized and part-immortalized in sparrow's stories, buffy has a hard time not getting at least a little...enthusiastic when she speaks. ]

California. Scotland. This place. Take your pick; I've lived in all of them. And -- please -- call me Buffy.

[And indeed he was, right here in the Good Spirits bar, in the flesh. Though surely Sparrow's stories contained some exaggerations and possible untruths about him.

Her excitement didn't go unnoticed as Barbossa regarded the woman curiously, taking another sip from the rum. California was not familiar to him, though Scotland certainly was. Interesting - that could explain her knowledge about Blackbeard's ship, though he still didn't have Jack Sparrow figure in anywhere in the equation.]

Well, miss Buffy, the ill-reputed Blackbeard was met with an ill fate, ye see. He made the miscalculation of attackin' and sinkin' me beloved Pearl, which was also when I lost me limb.

[He pointed to his wooden leg as he shifted it to the side a little, and then looked back at Buffy.]

The price, I'm afraid, was his life and his ship, which I was still in command of before I got here.

I know. [ she plays just one of her cards with a sly half-grin. ] You keep rum in it, don't you? [ she also points to the wooden leg. ] But you must have emptied it already. Or else it came empty. Because otherwise, why would you be here -- knocking on my door for bottles of the stuff?

[ oh, the pearl. the pearl which she's only seen in jack's dreams and in ill-fated malnosso experiments. but she tries not to leap up and pounce upon the pearl's mentioning. not yet. ]

[Oh, no. Now, those sure weren't details he expected her to know. His eyes narrowed a bit as he looked at her suspiciously with his brows furrowed, leaving the bottle on the table and leaning backward a bit, folding his arms as he did.

How did she guess that about the wooden leg? She couldn't have this intimate knowledge unless she was actually a crew member of his... or if she knew someone who was.]

...Aye. That's correct.

[He had already drank the rum inside when he had gone to sleep before being taken to Luceti.]

How exactly do ye know that, though, I wonder, hmmm?

[Barbossa didn't recognize the woman from anywhere, so the information she had must have come from another source. Hmm...]

What kind of ship is the Queen's Anne Revenge, matey?

Aye, there is an ocean, if it can even be called that, but it is closed off. A little taste of freedom to mock us for still being enclosed, eh.

...I know things, Captain. [ her smirk doesn't quite reach her eyes, for she knows she's playing with a loaded gun. but play she shall, for as much as she trusts others from jack's world she's not certain this pirate is anywhere near worth trusting. ]

Isn't that a barmaid's job? Well. One of her jobs. Knowing things. Such is her nature.

...If that were a barmaid's job, miss Buffy, then I can assure ye it'd be a lot more dangerous than advertised.

[People with too much knowledge about sensitive subjects weren't exactly the most liked from his experience. They could be a liability for someone who has a secret or two worth hiding... Now, this wasn't a secret worth making a fuss about, but it was still odd that she knew that regardless.

She was dodging the real question here, and that may have irritated the pirate captain a bit, but he was going to play it slow and steady himself until he found out more.]

The folk ye have comin' in here... ye've heard someone talkin' about me, then?

[He looked at her with a slight frown on his lips.]

That naturally makes me curious, ye see, whether I have an old acquaintance here that I have yet to meet, perhaps... An acquaintance with a big mouth.

The job could do with a bit more danger. If I'm honest. I mean, it hardly measures up to my last gig, danger-wise...

[ but neither of them really cared about her job. nor about the danger. they were both still dancing perilously 'round the red-hot question. how does she know?.

perhaps she'd try... ] I used to live with someone who knows you, I think. Captain Barbossa. If you're the same Captain Barbossa. Me and Elizabeth Swann go way back.

[ swann. not turner. the girl hadn't married, yet. the girl also wasn't the one who'd told her about barbossa, either. but buffy had at least a passing duty not to leap immediately to spilling every last one of sparrow's proverbial cats from his proverbial bag. ]

She's not here, any more.

Always been partial to black, myself. [And such was the color of his sails.] The Jolly Roger is quite appropriate for a man of me profession, I feel.

[Quite appropriately, it caused fright to some, and brought about respect from others.]

It's very interesting ye haven't heard of the Queen Anne's Revenge, Captain Marco, though that only proves that perhaps ye do hail from a different world than mine, I would guess.

[A smile crept up on his face as he went on to explain.]

The frigate used to be Blackbeard's, but unfortunately for him, I took it for me own after he regrettably perished. She's got an array of forty cannons and a speed of mighty twenty knots.

[Perhaps it was unwise sharing all of that information with a fellow pirate captain, but he still went on and did it - refraining from proudly talking about his current ship was never easy.

As for the mention of the ocean that was apparently closed off, that only made Barbossa sigh with exasperation.]

At least there is a bloody ocean... perhaps it can be regained with time.

Oh! [At the unexpected voice, Vivi whirls around quickly. She'd thought she and Carue were alone. She drags her eyes over the stranger quickly--no one she recognizes, that's for certain--and by the state of his dress, she can only assume he's a new feather.] Carue!

[She snaps her fingers twice and the duck gives up his staring and trots amiably to her side.] I'm sorry if he startled you. He's harmless. [Vivi bobs her head in a small bow of greeting.] My name's Vivi, and this is Carue. Did you just arrive?

[And she pauses there to let the newcomer speak. If the situation is as she thinks, he'll probably have some questions.]

[Spock makes a noncommittal noise as he searches around for that hat. Barbossa was taunting him... The Vulcan didn't appreciate it.

But he didn't let it bother him...

...much.

Regardless, Spock couldn't help but be curious at the odd speaking Captain. At least he was easier to comprehend than Jack.]
Can I safely assume that you are a pirate then?

Well, everything in the shops can be taken, yes. But people tend to only take what they need at a time because we're only supplied so much at a time.

[Looking ahead, the trees begin to thin out until they finally reveal shapes of buildings in the distance.]

[Unfortunately for Spock, he was subject to Barbossa's irritation and annoyance from just having been brought in Luceti. Finding his possessions here would definitely alleviate some of that.

Though the pirate captain was already well on his way to calming down. He joined Spock in their mutual search for his hat; it shouldn't be long until either of them find the item, for it would stand out particularly well.]

I think me being an acquaintance of Jack's should have made that fairly obvious, Mr. Spock. Are ye sayin' that that bugger never mentioned me once?

[Of course, he would immediately suspect that his name would have come up whenever the Black Pearl was involved, and specifically how Jack took it from him. Or rather, reclaimed possession of it.]
