01. Shipwreck [Action]

[Little did Captain Barbossa know that day at Tortuga that he won't exactly wake up in the same place he had fallen asleep in - that is, the captain's cabin on the Queen Anne's Revenge. So when his eyes snapped open, it wasn't the hull of the ship they were looking at, but instead it was several tall trees they saw looming over him, along with the overcast sky.

The pirate captain proceeded to stand up from the ground, immediately feeling a new sensation in his back - that of a... pair of wings?]

Shiver me timbers... What is this wretched place?

[Fittingly enough, it was then when a chill ran up his spine and caused his body to quiver, making him notice that he was also shirtless - save for the white cotton pants on his legs.

Wait... did that mean...

Yes, turning his head around, Barbossa also saw no sign of his hat anywhere in the forest he was now in. The hat he had only just regained possession of.]

Arrr! Where be me hat? I swear, if somebody took me hat...

[Speaking of, what had happened to his ship that he had just acquired? Did his crew commandeer it somehow and left him here to perish while he was asleep? Just what in the world had happened in Tortuga? And what was up with this drastic season change? And that journal lying on the ground, which he knelt down to pick up - it wasn't a treasure he remembered uncovering. He was too confused and angry right now to make any sense of it.

Was this all that scalawag Jack Sparrow's doing again? If it was, he should better pray that Barbossa doesn't get his hands on him. Just marooning him on that bloody island wouldn't do this time... No, his fellow pirate would remember him as the scourge of the seven seas...

The (former) captain was already walking through the forest, trying to find anything - a path, a tavern, a port. It's there where somebody could find him and possibly help him understand what's going on.]

[Barbossa's brows lifted a bit in sudden curiosity, not really having an idea as to what was causing the turmoil in his fellow pirate. He proceeded to fold his arms, looking at the man inquisitively.]

Say, ye look quite flustered all of a sudden, Captain Marco. I can't help but be curious as to what the matter is. Both Blackbeard and Fountain of Youth are fairly... notorious subjects among all folk like us, I should say.

[A story like that would cause awe among his peers indeed, but this wasn't quite the reaction he was expecting. Was it related to some discrepancy related to the different worlds they came from?]

[A story that Draco would most continue to hear upon subsequent introductions such as this one, to be sure. Naturally, the thought made the adventurous old pirate curious.]

So I take it ye hail from a land of talkin' dragons? The biggest beast I know of is the mighty Kraken, ye see, and even that is not exactly inclined for an amicable conversation such as the one we're havin' now.

[And he certainly wouldn't fair as well in such a land. If there be hostile dragons, and he assumed they would be - especially if he were to retain his role as a pirate there - then a ship in open waters wouldn't stand a chance. Even a creature like the Kraken, which was formidable by itself, was at least something a shop's cannons could shoot at.]

And what is this peculiar place that we've all been taken to, if ye can explain further?

[The dragon was right, though. Wherever he was now, it beat being marooned on a faraway island all by himself and left to slowly die.]

[As she explained his predicament, Barbossa followed her gaze wherever it went around them, until it landed on the book that he had in his hands. If this was a cage, it was the most sophisticated and queer one he had remembered being in. All of this was synonymous to being marooned on an island somewhere, except that this time he wasn't given a pistol with a single shot. Who knows whether he would actually need it.]

Livin' in peace here can be a difficult task with these captors of ours loomin' over this cage. Oh, no, it rather smells like war to me, lass.

[The old pirate captain's eyes widened a bit upon the sight of what could only be described as magic unfolding right in front of him, the sudden appearance of the chainsaw taking him aback. It wasn't quite like anything he had ever seen, but he already had a hunch that it was a kind of weapon.

Its presence there made him instinctively grip his journal tighter, a moment passing until he replied.]

Aye...I can't say I'm a stranger to such oddities. Ye see, I've went through things worse than death, and then death itself. Neither of those, I reckon, can be explained rationally or even believed by most folk of me world.

...Aye. I can assure ye that it wasn't a pretty sight.

[And on that, at the very least, they could agree. Anything beat being caught there for eternity and not being able to get the revenge against Blackbeard that he had already begun developing strong desire for.]

But who, I still wonder, could ye have learned more about it from if ye wished?

[On top of everything, Elizabeth never quite became a pirate. And from Buffy's earlier words to him, it sounded like whoever else had come here from Barbossa's world was a pirate himself.]

So they are, and that is a problem in itself.

My Blackbeard is not dead yet, and more than anything I wish to kill him. Edward Newgate was the name of my father, Blackbeard's father until Teach, my world's Teach, killed a brother and then Pops. So to hear of a Blackbeard named Edward Teach... it is rather startling, as I'm sure you can understand.

[He needed a moment to put the story together; after all, he was still getting used to the concept of different, alternate worlds. And to have a couple of them be so similar, yet different, was appropriately confusing.]

Isn't this rather peculiar of a coincidence, hmm? [...] The folk in our tales may be different, but the situation sounds eerily familiar, I should say. Ye're after yer Blackbeard for the same reason I was after the one who sunk me ship - for vengeance, that is.

[Barbossa motioned to his wooden leg as he replied, and shook his head a bit at the sudden recollection before looking up to Marco again.]

If ye ever get back to where ye hail from, then, ye better put an end to him. It'll feel immeasurably good, I can assure ye of that.

[She pauses for a moment, deciding the best way to answer while she shrugs out of her coat. It's been a while since she's done this.] The wings--ah, I can't say I completely understand why either, but everyone who's been brought here has them. You'll need to be careful with them, too. If they're injured, it's very painful, and it can make you weak--or even kill you.

[She holds her coat out to him--no, it definitely won't be a perfect fit, but seeing as how he's practically naked in this chilly weather, she can't not offer.]

Luceti is... Well. Wherever you came from before, this is a completely different place. A different world, really. [She watches his face to see how he reacts to that. It's a bit much to swallow, she knows, especially from a perfect stranger.]

I don't suppose you'll believe it if I say Admiral James Norrington, will you?

[ after all, even she knows that james would already be dead. ]

[Grins.] I think I like you matey.

Aye, I am rather intimately familiar with vengeance. [Gestures to the tattoo on his neck. It's still a little raw looking for reasons that are kind of complicated.] We made this symbol synonymous with it in my world. It is our flag outline, eh.

Teach used to be in my crew. An underling and bootlicker, but of course it was all a lie.

If I may, you wouldn't happen to be familiar with a Jack Sparrow, would ye? [He wouldn't normally volunteer such things, but he really is taking a liking to Barbossa.]

So many questions. You are in another world. You may even have the tiny wings to prove it. I have no idea who took your things but as for the item shop, that would depend on where you are.

[She glances towards him, expression thoughtful.]

I have never asked, but I suppose that would be a good explanation behind it. As for why we have them, I'm not sure anyone knows. It's the doing of the Malnosso and their intentions are mostly unclear to us.

It is very strange that they have given us wings, yet made us unable to fly, I think.

Your assumption that I am mortal is correct... However, I was uncertain if you were.

It is unfortunate that we are at the Malnosso's mercy... However, the reality of it has not yet changed...regardless of certain efforts.
Perhaps...to borrow a human phrase... you will bring 'fresh eyes' to the situation.

[Spock regards Barbossa as he enthusiastically acquires his hat.]

Fascinating... is there a purpose for the choice of feather?

Under your... [Faith tried to tell herself that didn't mean he was of the same profession, but the internal suggestion did little to ease her worries.

Had she put herself at the mercy of a pirate? Well, she'd do as she promised. She'd show him the shop -- nearly there, thank the Lord -- and quietly excuse herself before he could do her harm.] A... [To stop conversation entirely would be rude, offensive, and she did not want to give him offence.]

A remarkable feat, stopping that man, I am sure.

I'll certainly want to learn all there is to know about these Malnosso folk, aye. Then we shall see what will be brought to the table.

[Being here in Luceti meant that Barbossa was out of his comfort zone, but that wouldn't stop him from trying to figure out ways to defeat the Malnosso or inform himself more of their predicament.

And it was with enthusiasm that he picked his hat indeed, turning it around in his hands to make sure there wasn't any speck of dust on it. He tilted his head to look Spock's way momentarily as he smiled, proceeding to answer his question.]

Many pirate captains believe the feathers bring fortune, ye see, that they lessen the chance of stumblin' upon a terrible storm out in the seas. Me, though? I simply like the way it looks.

[Of course there would be a lot of questions - and they just kept coming, too.]

It'd be lovely if I had the answer to that myself, lass. Ye see, I be in some strange desolate woods in nothin' but a pair of white cotton pants and with this... curious book in me hands.

[That could, apparently, allow some sort of communication... however that was possible. He wasn't even sure if Robin was contacting him with another such book from somewhere, or through other means. Or whether she was actually in the book!]

[He scrunched his brows as he listened to the girl's explanation of the situation he was now in. All of this was just so odd and random, though he's certainly been in similar situations before.]

And I don't suppose we can use these wretched wings to fly, hmm? They be way too small, I would say. [The pirate looked behind him to catch glimpse of the black feathers on his back, and then brought his gaze back to Vivi.] Seems rather pointless, really. Naught but an irksome tease by whoever put them on us, perhaps?

[Barbossa watched the girl curiously as she offered him her coat, a moment passing before he accepted it. He had been a way out in the cold for a long time, after all, and he couldn't resist the offer.]

Much appreciated, miss Vivi. It's not often I walk around woods during the winter without any adequate attire, ye see.

[He put it on, and it really wasn't a perfect fit, but it was better than nothing. It didn't look particularly good on him, but the important thing was that he was warmer now. The pirate then scratched his beard a bit as he listened to what Vivi had to say, his expression still confused while he collected his thoughts.]

I've made me fair share of trips into uncharted waters, but never quite made it to another world before... What I still can't put me finger on, however, was how and why exactly I was brought here.

[There was a slight frown on his features now, his brows furrowed at the girl. Clearly, he was not happy being separated from his world and seemingly everything he had there.]

[Not even using the wings to fly made them all the more pointless - maybe they were nothing more but the mark of a prisoner to the Malnosso. Barbossa shook his head at Belle's words, looking at her directly with a foreboding expression.]

Everythin' about this is rather odd, I would say, and this is the most peculiar... cage I've ever been put in. And what of all these abundant conveniences that we're given, I wonder?

[If he had to guess, then it was merely a method to keep most folk quiet and at least somewhat satisfied, quelling thoughts of any potential uprising against them.]

[Barbossa couldn't help but be immediately intrigued by the woman's sudden change of behavior and the way she stopped her sentences, narrowing his eyes a bit at her. The fear she was expressing right now was not an unfamiliar sight, for a lot of other common folk have reacted the same way around him. Also around the time they found out that he was no other than the pirate captain Barbossa - it would have been more obvious to Faith as well if he actually had his clothes on.]

Ye look uneasy all of a sudden, miss Long. The Queen Anne's Revenge may be mine, but I can assure ye that I'm no Blackbeard.

[He then proceeded to shake his head a bit as his lips pulled into a faint smile, a sigh escaping his mouth for a brief moment before he continued.]

At the very least, I have no desire to strike such terror into me own crew and hearties, and I'm not one to decorate me ship with the bones of those I have killed. Pointless slaughter ain't me style and it suits folk who desperately wish to put as big of a target on their backs as they can... and are eventually put down.

[Another shake of his head. What he was saying was true; putting down Blackbeard clearly had a point to it, too. He had made it personal when he decided to sink his ship and make him lose his limb.]

[And when he showed it, Barbossa looked at the tattoo with his brows lifted, nodding his head as he listened to what Marco had to say about it. When he finished, he smiled as he replied, his eyes widening a bit.]

Color me impressed, Captain Marco. Sounds to me that ye were a force to be reckoned with back in yer waters. And I doubt ye'd find yerself an organized pirate crew that large in a port such as the wretched Tortuga back home.

[His smile turned into a frown soon enough though, specifically around the mention of a certain pirate's name that he didn't expect or have a particular desire to hear. Jack Sparrow... How did Marco know his name unless he had met the man in Luceti?]

...More familiar than I'd like to be, to be sure, aye... Don't tell me that the scalawag is among us as well, here?

[His voice was a perfect mix of disbelief and foreboding. Was it too much to hope that there was a Jack Sparrow in Marco's world that the other pirate was mentioning now?]

[And now a mention of James Norrington too. Well, of course, if the barmaid knew Elizabeth, the man must've come up at some point as well anyway.]

The poor Commodore wasn't exactly around anymore at the time, I fear.

[William Turner would have been mentioned a good number of times himself - though as Barbossa had said earlier, being captain of the Flying Dutchman would've prevented the bloke from learning anything about what happened with Blackbeard later on. With the way this was going, next on her list of mentions was going to be old Jack, probably, heh, and Elizabeth surely would've told her about him...

Wait. Jack Sparrow. Now this was someone that could've potentially found himself in Luceti just as Barbossa had. And he certainly fit the criteria of having a big mouth.]

... I don't suppose the pirate you were acquainted with, miss Buffy, was a certain Jack Sparrow... was it?

[He hadn't really considered it before, but now that he did, it was an unnervingly viable option...]

He is. My Blackbeard was here as well, and Jack tried to dupe him, though I am still unclear how well that went over.

I take it you are not a fan of the man? [He seems pretty delighted by Barbossa's dislike of Jack.]

[Have an eyebrow...

Spock didn't know what to think of this guy, but he found himself curious.]

I see...

It is well that you have found your hat then Captain. If you require further assistance, I can show you the items shop...

I see.

Well if you find the village and make your way to the fountain in the center without dying horribly, I'll be there to guide you.

[The pirate captain looked around his surroundings - same damn forest on every turn - and then glanced back at the woman in the book.]

Well, at least some kind of general direction would also be appreciated, miss...?

[Further inspection of the book followed; Barbossa's brows were scrunched in wonder.]

...And what is this fascinatin' item, anyway? How exactly are you talkin' to me through it?

Unfortunately I've no idea where you are.

This is a journal. I don't know how it works but everyone who is brought here wakes up with one. It can't be lost, either. I've never considered why we have them.
