01. Shipwreck [Action]

[Little did Captain Barbossa know that day at Tortuga that he won't exactly wake up in the same place he had fallen asleep in - that is, the captain's cabin on the Queen Anne's Revenge. So when his eyes snapped open, it wasn't the hull of the ship they were looking at, but instead it was several tall trees they saw looming over him, along with the overcast sky.

The pirate captain proceeded to stand up from the ground, immediately feeling a new sensation in his back - that of a... pair of wings?]

Shiver me timbers... What is this wretched place?

[Fittingly enough, it was then when a chill ran up his spine and caused his body to quiver, making him notice that he was also shirtless - save for the white cotton pants on his legs.

Wait... did that mean...

Yes, turning his head around, Barbossa also saw no sign of his hat anywhere in the forest he was now in. The hat he had only just regained possession of.]

Arrr! Where be me hat? I swear, if somebody took me hat...

[Speaking of, what had happened to his ship that he had just acquired? Did his crew commandeer it somehow and left him here to perish while he was asleep? Just what in the world had happened in Tortuga? And what was up with this drastic season change? And that journal lying on the ground, which he knelt down to pick up - it wasn't a treasure he remembered uncovering. He was too confused and angry right now to make any sense of it.

Was this all that scalawag Jack Sparrow's doing again? If it was, he should better pray that Barbossa doesn't get his hands on him. Just marooning him on that bloody island wouldn't do this time... No, his fellow pirate would remember him as the scourge of the seven seas...

The (former) captain was already walking through the forest, trying to find anything - a path, a tavern, a port. It's there where somebody could find him and possibly help him understand what's going on.]

She still has her powers. But it's the barrier surrounding the village,I think, that makes them weaker somehow. And not only hers.

[So he was right, at least partially. Then whoever this Saori was, she wouldn't be able to use her full potential to really save anyone anyway.]

These Malnosso are a formidable foe, to be sure, but I think I'll be findin' out the hard way just how impossible they are to defeat, miss Belle.

[He looked forward, noticing the item shop right in front of them and looking it over briefly before he said anything else to the girl.]

Tryin' is better than the two of us babblin' about our odds all day long, I would say.

[He didn't know nearly everything there was to know at this point anyway, and what he wanted more now than a depressing talk about their situation was a good batch of apples, a bottle of ale, and his hat.]

[At the mention of bones... Faith can only shudder, pulling her arms around her as if to fight a chill. Still, she does listen to what he's saying. A privateer, she tells herself, desperate to believe it. A man not in the Navy but flying under England's flag. Not a pirate.

Not...

She smiles and nods at the clothing shop, now right beside the door.]

Here you are, sir. I can't promise that your clothes will be in there, but they ought to be soon, I believe. And you should be able to find something that will do in the meantime.

Runnin' a circus, runnin' a ship. What can I say, Hector? I'm a natural-born captain of....things.

And I'm certain you'll have a chance to prove your OWN leaderly ways, the way this place is run. Lord have mercy on us all.

Entertained is not the word I'd use, Hec. Or should I be calling you Barbossa?

[Spock regarded Barbossa for a moment...]

The Dome might be difficult to explain... a demonstration might be preferable in this instance.

[Spock gestured to the room.] Is there anything else here that you need?

After I show you the Dome, we may conclude at Good Spirits bar.

Only once upon a time. [ But not anymore. Draco tilts his head to one side at the word 'kraken'. ] A sea monster? Hmm, yes, I expect those aren't so prone to idle chatter.

[ Not something he's ever seen himself, of course, but he wasn't inclined to disagree if squids could talk or not. ]

This place? [ He lifts a great big clawed hand, for closer to a hand than any beast's claw it is, and gestures to the forest around them. ] This place is Luceti. Lots of trees, mountains, lakes, and a village of people stuck here just like yourself. Whatever world you are thinking you are still on, you are not. This is a different one, one that steals people from where they belong, but it is the Malnosso who puts them in places like this.

[ He pauses and swings his head down closer to eye the pirate. ]

You don't happen to have a little book with you? One you just found nearby when you woke up?

[She gives him a toothy smile and bounces the chainsaw against her shoulder.]

The life of one who cannot die, but cannot live.

[She tilts her head down a little and her greenish yellow eyes shine like a cat's behind her glasses.]

I can feel the kiss of my brethren on you, Captain Barbossa. It isn't so difficult for me to believe at all.

And if you're accustomed to war as our dear Captain Sparrow is, you'll find plenty to do in our pretty cage.

[If the Vulcan deemed it necessary, then a demonstration would have to suffice. But first, to answer Spock's question...]

Aye. Me clothes, of course.

[Thankfully, they weren't far away from where the hat had been, having arrived together, presumably.

There were his dark brown breeches and double-breasted waistcoat of the same color, along with the leather swash boots. His white shirt was there, as well, which was what he began putting on first. It finally felt much warmer than it had before, not to mention that there was an element of uneasiness before at the prospect of a man of his stature walking around with nothing but a pair of white cotton pants.

Now fully clothed, just like he had been before being sent to this world, Barbossa turned to face the Vulcan.]

A journey to this... 'Good Spirits' also sounds good, Mr. Spock. Me hopin' they happen to have rum.

[As for any future clothing he could get, Barbossa would make a later trip to this store at some point.]

[And just like that, Barbossa's eyes widened a bit at Grell's words, his own head tilting to the side instinctively. What a curious woman, she was, so seemingly acquainted with what it had felt like; the life of one who was not among the living, but neither had he been dead. It was not something he recalled often, for he wasn't particularly fond of doing so.]

I have to say that what ye're sayin' intrigues me, miss Sutcliffe. It's a peculiar thing to go through death itself, much less havin' to explain it to folk. But ye are among the few who have shown an interest, and perhaps even knowledge as to what exactly happened to me.

[The pirate captain followed all of this up with a node, a sigh escaping his lips, which then pulled into a smile.]

Aye. I've certainly seen me fair share of battles, though I'm more comfortable when out in the seas with a ship's deck under me feet.

[Sigh. At times, it almost felt like he was talking to Jack Sparrow already with this woman.]

...Seems like the man has left a certain imprint, hmm? His way of addressing folk of a stature such as me own in particular.

[And yes, for him, Barbossa would clearly be the preferred option. Being the vain man he was, he was not particularly thrilled to hear her calling the notorious pirate captain of the Queen Anne's Revenge "Hec".]

Hmph. Time will tell, I'd say.

[Another drink from the ale, followed by a lazy slouch on his chair. Curses, was it a long day.]

The folk here are some of the strangest I've met. [And that even counts the man he was talking to.] Certainly not like any of the crews that ye or I have had before.

[With that in mind, it was hard to picture himself commanding in Luceti, not that the idea was unpleasant. It was just different.]

[Barbossa followed the dragon's gaze - or rather, where his claw was pointing towards - and processed what he was telling him, easing into the fact that he was actually speaking with a particularly large and scaly creature.]

So this be a land with mountains and lakes, but with no seas and oceans? [Hmph. To add insult to injury, the place he was taken to didn't even have a large enough body of water for him to really sail in.] Is this, perhaps, another curse that the heathen gods have placed upon me when they decided to bring me here?

[It sure seemed to be this way; for one reason or another, he had been among those people who were supposedly taken here as well, probably destined to go that village and settle in himself.]

Ye're talkin' about this, perhaps? [Barbossa then pointed to the book that he was holding in his hand, revealing more of the cover to the dragon.] I did, aye, but I was not really up for readin' at the time, ye see. I was too busy figurin' out where me ship had gone to and why I was without any decent attire.

[He had just lost the Queen Anne's Revenge and everything else he had, after all (just after claiming them too); and he certainly hadn't been calm enough to go through this.]

[Faith could be telling herself that all she wanted to; but it would not change the fact that what she was faced with was an actual pirate captain who had certainly done his fair share of wrongs before.

Of course, Barbossa couldn't really tell what she was thinking, but he had noticed that she was not particularly enthusiastic anymore, but more on the timid side.]

Ye may be correct, but I would like me own clothes to be there. I only recently regained possession of those as well, and I would hate to lose 'em.

[He said so as he began entering the clothing shop in search for his belongings, sparing the woman a curious glance before going through the door.]

What of ye, miss Long, hmm? How long have ye been trapped here?

Indeed... Please, follow me.

[The Vulcan lead them out of the items shop and out into the village proper once more...
The new direction though led them to a large circular building. The tech and architecture was a downgrade from what Spock was used to... Spock was watching Barbossa to see his reaction to it.]

This is the Battle Dome. It was a 'gift' from the Malnosso to keep us occupied... The technology that is most prevalent are simulations.

[Spock opened the from door for the Captain.]

[She gives him a curtsy, holding the hem of her jacket as one would the edge of a dress, the other hand still firmly keeping the chainsaw in view and in place.]

It is my business to know, Captain. The least I can do is notice when someone so interesting wanders across my path.

The village has its share of pirates - not all the sort you will remember or even know - but they have ships, even if they're more for sharing than I would have expected from their kind.

[Grell straightens and bows, keeping her eyes on Barbossa.]

Shall I escort you to the village?

I-imprint? [ concerned, she touches her shoulder -- thinking briefly that her sparrow-shaped tattoo might have been visible. but -- no -- all flesh is well covered. so she shakes her head and tries to get back into the game. ]

Nothing like that. He's just...well known, that's all.

You'll be happy to know, mate, that strange is normal here. You'll fit in perfectly.

The monkey's not here, is he?

[Jack takes a swig of rum, preparing himself for the worst.]

What awaits you is me, the item shop and the Welcome Center. I believe you'll find accommodations there as well as those who can answer your questions better than I will.

And don't worry. I wouldn't leave you in the street. I'd hate to trip over you in the night.

Oh? No. There are seas and oceans. You can get to the one on the other side of the mountains. Only I do not often see people interested in the trip there, not since last summer.

[ Hence why he had not bothered to add that, but if the man wanted to know about oceans, well, there was part of one they could access. ]

And no, I very much doubt it's a curse. [ Curses were at least breakable. This place, not so much. When Barbossa points out the book, Draco moves, leaning his head down closer for a look at it. ] Ah, yes, that one. Apparently there is a 'guide' to this place in it, though I have not read it myself. You may find it more thorough than what I can tell you.

[Once they reach the front of the shop she stops and motions to it. It's small and similar in appearance to the rest of the buildings around them.]

Well, if that's the case, then I wish you the best of luck monsieur Barbossa. Here we are. You should be able to find your items here.

Oh, I'd say he is as unpredictable and crazy as ever. Last I heard he found a ship here, though whether it was his captive one, or one stolen from Blackbeard, I cannot say. Of course, if it is the latter, it seems like that ship should belong to you, no?

[Barbossa narrowed his eyes a bit at the mention of a ship, briefly forgetting about Jack for a moment. That knowledge would imply that it was still possible to get a naval vessel, even if was virtually unusable in this foul place.]

That scalawag actually has a ship, ye say?... Well, I be afraid that a ship like that - a ship that offers not the freedom one such as ourselves desire - will do him about as much good as it would for us, captain Marco.

[That was not to say that Barbossa wouldn't still want to have a ship. And from the sound of it, there was at least an opportunity to find or build one. Somehow. He would find a way.]

...Ye're certainly correct, however, in sayin' that I should claim my ship if its name happens to be the Queen Anne's Revenge and if there be a skull and a pair of swords on its sails.

[There was a both a threatening and an inquisitive tone to his words as the old pirate looked Marco's way, the thought of Jack Sparrow monkeying around his ship certainly unpleasant and prevalent in his mind.]

[So will the one beside him, certainly. Both were used to strange, but this Luceti place was something else.]

Afraid not. After all, if I recall correctly, yer namesake was trapped in a bottle, along with yer ship.

[There was a hint of lamentation in the old pirate's voice, clearly showing that he missed his pet even in his attempts to mock the one the monkey was named after. Perhaps he will be able to find it here in Luceti somewhere? He definitely hoped it would.]

[Barbossa took a couple of steps forward as he heard what the death god had to say, her words clearly catching the old man's attention, fascinating him. She was reminding him of Calypso in some ways, especially the seemingly intimate knowledge she had of his journey through death. Hopefully he would get to finding out more about her later...

He reached out with his hand to scratch his beard a little.]

It is unlike our kind, aye... however, from the looks of things, this be a rather special circumstance. I have had the misfortune of sharin' a ship myself before, ye see, and I'm sure these pirates ye speak of aren't too thrilled about doin' the same either.

[At least he hadn't liked it one bit, and he was definitely acquainted with the feeling already.]

Aye, lead the way, miss Sutcliffe. The faster I'm out of this forest, the better. [So that he would get to somewhere warmer, and perhaps find at least some of his lost possessions.]
