01. Shipwreck [Action]
[Little did Captain Barbossa know that day at Tortuga that he won't exactly wake up in the same place he had fallen asleep in - that is, the captain's cabin on the Queen Anne's Revenge. So when his eyes snapped open, it wasn't the hull of the ship they were looking at, but instead it was several tall trees they saw looming over him, along with the overcast sky.
The pirate captain proceeded to stand up from the ground, immediately feeling a new sensation in his back - that of a... pair of wings?]
Shiver me timbers... What is this wretched place?
[Fittingly enough, it was then when a chill ran up his spine and caused his body to quiver, making him notice that he was also shirtless - save for the white cotton pants on his legs.
Wait... did that mean...
Yes, turning his head around, Barbossa also saw no sign of his hat anywhere in the forest he was now in. The hat he had only just regained possession of.]
Arrr! Where be me hat? I swear, if somebody took me hat...
[Speaking of, what had happened to his ship that he had just acquired? Did his crew commandeer it somehow and left him here to perish while he was asleep? Just what in the world had happened in Tortuga? And what was up with this drastic season change? And that journal lying on the ground, which he knelt down to pick up - it wasn't a treasure he remembered uncovering. He was too confused and angry right now to make any sense of it.
Was this all that scalawag Jack Sparrow's doing again? If it was, he should better pray that Barbossa doesn't get his hands on him. Just marooning him on that bloody island wouldn't do this time... No, his fellow pirate would remember him as the scourge of the seven seas...
The (former) captain was already walking through the forest, trying to find anything - a path, a tavern, a port. It's there where somebody could find him and possibly help him understand what's going on.]

[Action]
There be no crime rate here, Mr. Spock, because folk like the two of us are already prisoners. Besides, I reckon it would be unwise to forget who the real enemy is... these Malnosso ye mentioned.
[Upon hearing Spock's next words, Barbossa scrunched his brows together as he looked at him. Was that warning really friendly, or did he mean to say that the old man would be careless?]
Define 'incidents', Mr. Spock, and we shall see whether I'll be the cause of one or not.
Re: [Action]
There are many powerful individuals who reside in Luceti... Those with magical capabilities...gods... and those with strength that I have never witnessed.
A simple argument between two people can have catastrophic results.
[Action]
As long as these gods and powerful beings didn't actively oppose him and as long as he wasn't among the collateral damage of these 'catastrophic results', he was fine with the concept.]
Ye flatter me, Mr. Spock, but I'm afraid I be no god, and ye certainly won't see me doin' any magic. I'm naught but a simple pirate, a mortal like ye.
[He then shook his head a bit as he stopped searching for a bit and looked Spock's way with his brows lifted.]
And for how powerful ye say those folk may be, it seems to me as if they're still not good enough to put an end to those slippery Malnosso's schemes, hmm?
[With that said, the pirate captain went on to help the Vulcan's search for his possessions, noticing something really familiar out of the corner of his eye that caught his attention - an ostrich feather sticking out among the clothes on the shelf Spock was currently looking through.]
Ah! There be my hat.
Re: [Action]
It is unfortunate that we are at the Malnosso's mercy... However, the reality of it has not yet changed...regardless of certain efforts.
Perhaps...to borrow a human phrase... you will bring 'fresh eyes' to the situation.
[Spock regards Barbossa as he enthusiastically acquires his hat.]
Fascinating... is there a purpose for the choice of feather?
[Action]
[Being here in Luceti meant that Barbossa was out of his comfort zone, but that wouldn't stop him from trying to figure out ways to defeat the Malnosso or inform himself more of their predicament.
And it was with enthusiasm that he picked his hat indeed, turning it around in his hands to make sure there wasn't any speck of dust on it. He tilted his head to look Spock's way momentarily as he smiled, proceeding to answer his question.]
Many pirate captains believe the feathers bring fortune, ye see, that they lessen the chance of stumblin' upon a terrible storm out in the seas. Me, though? I simply like the way it looks.
Re: [Action]
Spock didn't know what to think of this guy, but he found himself curious.]
I see...
It is well that you have found your hat then Captain. If you require further assistance, I can show you the items shop...
[Action]
...Aye. I can't help but wonder, though, have these Malnosso folk graced us with a food store, as well, hmm? I find myself starvin' for an apple or two, ye see. A lengthy walk in the woods can do that to ye.
[And perhaps he could follow it up with some rum in some kind of bar - if there was one, and if there was even any rum to begin with. The gods, did he need to collect his thoughts and rest for a bit after all this shock.]
Re: [Action]
There is a grocery store, hospital, various shops for clothing and items... restaurants and cafes...
There are even two bars or pubs if you are so inclined. For training there is the barracks... Or if you are 'feeling adventurous'... there is the Dome.
I would be amenable to 'showing you around' that facility if you wish.
[Action]
[Barbossa lifted his brows as he spoke the words and gave the man another grin. He could only hope the Vulcan could see that he was utilizing sarcasm again, for all of this certainly didn't make up for being forced out of his ship and all of his belongings, as well as being separated from his crew and the world he knew and enjoyed sailing in.
Still, an elaborate cage was better than being tied in rope, that much he could agree on. It may have been an attempt to keep him satisfied and content, and he would make use of what he was given - but he wouldn't stop thinking about ways to escape.]
A trip to one of the taverns also sound rather lovely, Mr. Spock. I suppose I do not have to ask ye whether our captors have supplied us with rum, hmm? Seein' as they've kindly decided to grace us with so much free conveniences, I doubt they'd miss out on that.
I'm inclined to say that I'm a rather adventurous fellow, aye. Comes with bein' a pirate captain. Ye'll have to elaborate what this Dome is all about first, however.
Re: [Action]
The Dome might be difficult to explain... a demonstration might be preferable in this instance.
[Spock gestured to the room.] Is there anything else here that you need?
After I show you the Dome, we may conclude at Good Spirits bar.
[Action]
Aye. Me clothes, of course.
[Thankfully, they weren't far away from where the hat had been, having arrived together, presumably.
There were his dark brown breeches and double-breasted waistcoat of the same color, along with the leather swash boots. His white shirt was there, as well, which was what he began putting on first. It finally felt much warmer than it had before, not to mention that there was an element of uneasiness before at the prospect of a man of his stature walking around with nothing but a pair of white cotton pants.
Now fully clothed, just like he had been before being sent to this world, Barbossa turned to face the Vulcan.]
A journey to this... 'Good Spirits' also sounds good, Mr. Spock. Me hopin' they happen to have rum.
[As for any future clothing he could get, Barbossa would make a later trip to this store at some point.]
Re: [Action]
[The Vulcan lead them out of the items shop and out into the village proper once more...
The new direction though led them to a large circular building. The tech and architecture was a downgrade from what Spock was used to... Spock was watching Barbossa to see his reaction to it.]
This is the Battle Dome. It was a 'gift' from the Malnosso to keep us occupied... The technology that is most prevalent are simulations.
[Spock opened the from door for the Captain.]
[Action]
A generous 'gift' like that one like me would consider a trap, Mr. Spock, but seein' as folk have been usin' it for a while, I would say that it's probably harmless. One can never be sure, though.
[There would always be a little bit of suspicion towards anything that he was given by what should be his enemy, after all.
Now, Barbossa was the one to do Spock's trademark gesture as he quirked an eyebrow in his direction while heading through the door.]
And kind of simulations are ye talkin' about exactly, hmm? What happens inside?
[Spock would probably find Barbossa's cluelessness amusing, seeing how much his world had to catch up in terms of technology.]
Re: [Action]
[The Vulcan gestured to the many doors surrounding the tall, circular room, and the many consoles and computers.]
The residents usually utilize the Dome for training exercises, to enhance specific fighting skills and stealth.
Or, as a means of entertainment.
[Spock opened one of the simulation doors, to reveal a plain, dark room...
When it shut, the Vulcan went over to a computer console and pressed a few buttons. The next time Spock opened the door, it revealed a spacious room containing a traditional dojo...
....a Luceti favourite.]
[Action]
[The renowned pirate captain could only gawk at the sight of the plethora of consoles and computers, feeling lost around all of this highly advanced technology. He listened and took in what Spock had to say, but he was fairly certain he had no idea as to how all of this even functioned.]
Not a lot of volunteers for actual, real combat on the premises, aye? Or have we not the means to train in the real world? [Meaning Luceti, of course, though he was still not sure how real that was.]
[A traditional dojo, huh? Well, that's certainly something Barbossa hasn't seen before either, though he could certainly benefit from it.]
Did ye just create this from thin air by fiddlin' around with... that? [He pointed to the computer console. And yes, he did not like being in unfamiliar waters such as these, with so many things around him that were beyond his immediate comprehension.]
Re: [Action]
Allow me to explain...The simulation rooms utilize two major subsystems... the holographic image and the conversion of matter. The holographic imaging system creates realistic environments and landscapes. The conversion system of matter creates physical objects from the central supply of raw materials from the Dome... or whatever power source the Malnosso are supplying it with. Under normal conditions, a participant in a holographic simulation should not be able to distinguish a real object from a simulated one.
[Spock allowed a moment for Barbossa to process this information...then continued.]
The simulators also generates impressive recreations of humanoid and other forms of life by means of precisely-shaped force fields covered by holographic imagery, with the effect that they seem solid to the touch. They are made to move by use of tractor beams, resulting in highly articulated and computer-controlled "puppets" which are exceptionally realistic, showing nearly equal behaviour to that exhibited by living beings, depending, of course, on the limits of the software involved. However, the replication-based material transport system is obviously unable to reproduce a living being.
Solid, inanimate objects on the simulated—items such as a book, a rock, or an apple...are composed of matter arranged by the replication system and, when deemed appropriate by the computer system, can be interacted with or even consumed. Objects created by replication of matter are physically real and can indeed be removed from the simulators, noting only that they will no longer be under the control of the computer once removed from the simulation. However, objects created in the simulation that are purely images can not be removed from the simulated environment, even if they seem to have a physical reality due to the force fields.
[Spock tilted his head...He purposely left out a lot of technical lingo... and hoped that the Captain understood.] Do you have any questions?
[Action]
It definitely was a good thing that Spock was... considerate enough to leave out most of the technical lingo because he was most certainly going to be cut off by the pirate. Who, at this time, was simply staring at at the Vulcan, having made an attempt to initially listen to him but soon enough, he was only hearing him.
Curses. And he thought Jack Sparrow was hard to understand.]
...I think I'll just take that as a "yes", Mr. Spock. [The pirate was pretty satisfied with just leaving it at that.] And nay, ye have been... more than informative about this, I'm inclined to say. [Please no more. Please.]
On second thought, what do ye say we... drop the explanations and examine the possibilities of this thing instead, hmm? [Barbossa took a couple of steps forward into the dojo, away from the Vulcan himself, his back turned to him.] I can't help but be curious, being a pirate captain, ye see, whether one can recreate ship-to-ship combat here.
[The traditional dojo could've been Luceti's favorite, but at the very least he could get a real sword in the village.]
Re: [Action]
The simulations have many capabilities... Though can I presume you meant a water-based ship?
[Hey... Barbossa could have been a space-pirate.... right? The Vulcan needed to make sure. Luceti was no place to make assumptions.]
[Action]
Oh, wait. The man was clearly from a world that was way ahead of his own, seemingly having an understanding of all of this tech around them - ergo, in other words, somebody from the future; this whole structure had that kind of look of it, too. So perhaps he meant...]
...Aye, I did. I can assume that yer questions implies that folk have found a way to construct workin' airships perhaps, back in yer own world, Mr. Spock?
[To be a captain of an airship... The thought of that happening at some point was alluring to a lot of folk back home, but it was an idea to still become an actual reality. Barbossa didn't know how to feel about it, though, and whether it would be the same as being out in the seas.]
Re: [Action]
[Cryptic answer is cryptic.... Spock goes to the panel and types in a few commands...
...then the room around them hazes out and is replaced by the Bridge of the Enterprise. The viewscreen shows outer space, stars lazily moving past as the hologram moves them through a simulated warp.]
This is the ship I help command... The USS Starship Enterprise NC-1701...
[Action]
This be yer ship?... [He looked around, completely stupefied as a man who came from the middle of eighteenth century Earth. The technology here looked even more advanced than the simulator itself, and after he looked around some, he brought his gaze to Spock's.] Well, well. Ye failed to mention that ye were a fellow captain, Mr. Spock.
[As a captain, however, he was still more prone to catching on to a ship's functions than somebody else would from his time.] In that case, this be the bridge, or what? If this be an actual space ship, then ye would certainly not need any sails, but what has become of the helm?
[Absolutely fascinating. This day was becoming almost too overwhelming for Barbossa, and he had seen so many strange things in his time already. There was both a hint of disbelief as well as excitement in his voice as he said his query. Before he gave Spock a chance to answer, though, he added something very important.]
Keep in mind I'm naught but a humble pirate, eh? Lay off a bit on the... technicalities this time, would ye?
Re: [Action]
You see that viewscreen? This is a simulation of what the Enterprise actually sees as it travels...
As it does travel through Space.
The ship itself is quite large... [Spock went to a panel.... and changed the viewscreen to show a model of the Enterprise.]
As you can see, the hull is here....
[Action]
Ah, pardon me misunderstanding, Mr. Spock. [It still called back to his own experiences, however.] I used to be the first mate of a ship myself, in fact, before I... took matters in me own hands, ye could say. Had a certain... conflict of interests with the captain. [And right afterward he ended up being cursed for eternity, but that was not something he wanted to mention right now.]
[The pirate captain then went on to listen to Spock's explanation of what the viewscreen actually displayed and then looked at the model of the Enterprise. It was the ugliest ship he'd ever seen, so far off from what he was used to - the proportions were all skewed, the lack of sails made it lose its charm, the cannon placement was virtually upside down - just all completely wrong. There was nothing that made it look particularly menacing or a force to be reckoned with - certainly not that plate-looking hull. Yes, it was a space ship, but still...]
That be the mighty Enterprise? [He pointed to the viewscreen as he turned his head to the side to look at Spock.] Well, that thing better handle herself well in combat. What do ye use to fire in space, anyway? I wager it can't be bloody cannon-balls.
Re: [Action]
Pirate... must have been mutiny. But that other comment.... should Spock take offense to that?
No, because he was passive about most things. If he was Kirk though, the conversation might have taken a turn for the worse.
Instead he gestures to the ship design again.]
Phasers and photon torpedoes are the main source of weaponry. They are energy based weapons that attack the particles of the target. Neutralizing it.
Perhaps I will give you a demonstration at a later time.
However, perhaps we should exit the simulation. I am certain you will become used to their function soon enough.
Can I interest you in that drink now? [Good job Spock, you're being sociable.]
[Action]
[As for becoming used to simulation's functions...] I would not be so sure, but this sneak peek ye gave me was surely quite fascinatin'. I have to admit ye have piqued my interest, Mr. Spock.
[Barbossa then sighed at the mention of a drink and turned away from the ship design to look directly at Spock, speaking with a certain enthusiasm.]
Ye certainly can. What drink does one such as yerself have in mind, though, I wonder?
[He had spend enough time in the Vulcan's company to find it difficult to place him in a tavern such as Tortuga's, or imagine him enjoying rum the way most folk back home did. Whatever Spock was thinking of was certainly something too sophisticated or fastidious... unless he remembered his earlier comment about the rum. He would be sure to remind him in the case that he didn't.]
Re: [Action] sorry for the short tag, I couldn't help it! XD
[Action] It's no problem, I approve of it! :D
